Friday Night: The Covenant of Grace - A review of the purpose of Grace. A start to our analysis of Eph 2:8-10 and an understanding of why, when it really comes down to it, Grace is the first thing we need before pursuing works, otherwise we'll just end up with DEAD WORKS.

Saturday Afternoon: Law vs. Grace - What was the point of the law? Why did it come into existence? What was Christ's purpose in fulfilling the law? A continuation of how big of a deal Grace really is and why we need to repent of dead works before we can truly receive grace.

Saturday Night: Giving an account of our lives - At some point in time, we will all have to give an account of our lives - What is it that we are giving an account for? Why does it matter?

Sunday Night: Destiny - What is it that we have been called to in life? How do we embark on this journey that we call destiny?

Transportation:
Those of you asking for transportation should have already been contacted. IF YOU REQUIRE TRANSPORTATION AND HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING YET, LET US KNOW!!!

- You are asked to split the cost of gas with your driver. Please ask the driver how much for the gas =).

Arrival:
Please see this post.

Departure:
We are assuming how you came in is how you are to leave. The conference is going to end around 3pm on Monday. If your situation is different during departure of the conference, please let us know.

Payments:
For those who have yet to pay, PLEASE do so upon arrival with cheques made out to 'AFC' or in cash for the amount of $195.

What to bring to CC10

Here's a list of reminders for what you should bring to CC10:

The Word – the only weapon allowed at this conference is the sword of the spirit.

Pens – you’re going to want to write stuff down

Clothes – The ones on your back + change for 3 days. (or enough Febreze for 3 days)

Towel, Soap, Shampoo – because we’re civilized =) [or, I'm known to call AXE spray a ‘shower in a bottle’]

Toiletries – Toothbrush, toothpaste, contacts/solution, glasses, hair product, deodorant

Snacks – For you snack-a-holics

$10 for a CC10 T-shirt - LIMITED QUANTITY. You're going to want these. trust me. they look amazing. There was only one production run and we GUESTIMATED the sizes... so get your size before it runs out!

Camera - Because you're going to want to upload them all to facebook once you get home!!

Free time toys – If you plan to use free time to play frisbee or toss a softball around... you can also yu-gi-oh or pokemon cards, pogs, crazy bones, yo-yo’s, etc.

Females: Girl stuff. (I really don’t know how to populate this list… you’re on your own, ladies!)

Pillow, Sleeping Bag*, Stuffed animal you sleep with.

**A NOTE RE. SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS: Each ROOM (2 people) has ONE bed in it. For females, the bed is big enough to fit two of you comfortably, as long as you’re cool with that. I think most girls are. GENTS, I think it’s a bit intimate for two fully grown males [so unless you’re cool with that… sleeping bags are really recommended]. I THINK (can’t promise. My memory is horrible) the bed had a mattress you could pull off and throw on the floor, so one gets bed one gets mattress floor which is a pretty good compromise. In any case, bring a sleeping bag and work it out with your room mate. SORRY! If you have any major issues with this, let me know.**

come as early as 5:30 if you're bored!

We will let you settle into your room and drop off your stuff. You’re free to chill out, play outside, wander the campus until 6:45pm (then proceed to main room).

The conference actually begins in the Main Roob/Pub (student Center) at 7:00pm.

Parking is located at the RIGHT of the residence. We recommend stopping in front, unloading and then dropping your car off in the parking lot to allow others to unload.

Make sure you eat before coming to the conference. There are a fair number of fast food joints in the area if you explore. Food wont’ be served the first night.

If arrive late, please proceed to the main room if you arrive before 9pm. If arriving past 9pm, you must find Derek Ma or David Ooi by calling their cell phones (see final confirmation e-mail for details).

CC10 Shirt Design Contest

hello hello hello!

check out my first vlog of life! I'm such a noob:

Contest Guidelines:
- Designs due by May 7th, 11:59pm
- Designs are to be submitted to campuschallenge2010@gmail.com
- Best design (as voted by committee) will be used for a printing run. T-shirts can be purchased at cost @ CC10.
- Top Design will receive free t-shirt & $10-15 off registration
- Two runner-up designs will receive $10-15 off registration

Design Guidelines:
- Designs should be done in single tone (to keep printing costs down). i.e. one colour design; front and back of shirt can be used.
- We probably won't print on white. Try and have your design work on maroon, green, black or blue (or any other suggestions you guys have).
- Designs should include 'Campus Challenge 2010' or 'CC10', 'tangible faith' and optional: 'Ephesians 2:8-10', or full written out verse. Beyond that, creativity is key!
- Design can be just text, include shapes/images/anything!
- Please submit a high res image AND layout image on tshirt shape (use this if you need one):

Reg Fee

The reg fee has been set this year at $195 for the early bird.

Now now, don't step back in shock yet...

The reg fee is a bit higher than it has been in past years for a few reasons:

We have a new venue this year (as noted here) since our original venues were not available this year. We've also extended the length of the conference this year. Rather than a 3 day 2 night conference, CC10 will once again be a 4 day, 3 night conference. This means there'll be more time to fit things into our schedule and everyone will have more time to digest all the goodness that will be happening @ CC. (a.k.a. More Awesomeness.)

In the past, attendees also had to chip in for transportation costs if they got rides there. This year, the venue is significantly closer (especially for all you people in Sauga!) so you'll be sure to save money there.

I'd also like to remind everyone that this is a conference. Many of you probably pay 100-150$ish for a weekend retreat with your fellowships... well this is even BIGGER, LONGER and will quite possibly (depending on how hardcore your fellowship is) make available more crazy teaching and growth (this is totally subjective btw... and I'm obviously biased. haha). We have a fantastic speaker plus a great number of workshops with really awesome workshop leaders coming out (most of these workshop leaders are capable enough to be MAIN speakers for our event too!). Plus we have a few extra surprises coming at you too this year, but you'll have to come to find out!

In short, the slightly higher fee is DEFINITELY worth it. You will be fed throughout the weekend (spiritually AND physically!), have nice warm (or cool... I can't get into the 'summer' mindset yet) accommodation, but most of all, it will be a time to meet God with brothers & sisters and really prepare ourselves for the calling on our campuses and for our lives.

Early bird will likely end May 10th, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE sign up early! We'll be bumping up the price to at least $205 after this date since most people don't respond to these requests without incentive =p.

Registration will be opening in the next few days! (Target date is April 13th, but no promises... haha. sorry =\)

CC10 Speaker: NMKJR

Pastor Nick Kusmich Jr. (NMKJR) is our speaker this year for Campus Challenge 2010!

We are SUPER excited and blessed to have Nick with us over the weekend to teach us about the glories God has revealed to him in his life around 'Grace and Works'.

I've personally had the great opportunity to have Nick around at a number of my youth retreats & fellowship nights growing up as a Christian and have been empowered by God through Nick every time. Taking on the official role of Paster at ICC (my home church) in 2008, he has been a great mentor for me personally and my fellow brothers and sisters. Therefore, I cannot say personally how thrilled I am to have him with us for CC10!

Nick will be basing his sessions off of our theme verse, Ephesians 2:10, teaching about Grace (salvation by faith vs. works) and the calling to live out our 'design(workmanship)' of good works.

Nick is an extremely funny, down to earth and sincerely passionate speaker who will definitely rock the house this year and challenge us in the way we live our lives everyday and in service to God, not just in theory, but practically.

Nick is the Pastor for the English congregation at Indonesian Christian Church Canada. You can read his church bio here.

I realize I haven't posted many pictures on this blog... soooooooo in the spirit of why not, here's a picture of Nick. haha!

(He's half Korean half Ukranian, if that helps answer the question some of you may have after seeing the pic. =p. haha)

CC10 Venue & Speaker!

Due to our normal venues being unavailable, we'll be trying a NEW venue this year! (Don't worry... God's presence is portable... or omnipresent. whichever you prefer =p)

This year we'll be at Sheridan College - Davis Conference Center in Brampton (map) *gasp*

We haven't quite finalized the transportation situation yet, but it being only 30 minutes out shouldn't be too big of an issue. Anyways, praise Him for providing us this venue for our amazing Campus Challenge conference this year!!!!

Also, this year we will be going back to a 4 day, 3 night conference (rather than 1 less in each category, like the past few years). This means there'll be more time to fit things into our schedule and everyone will have more time to digest all the goodness that will be happening @ CC.

That being said, it also boosts us up our fees to the venue, etc. =(
We're still working out the final price, but it's in the $190's range (we won't break $200, we promise). We encourage you to not consider limited finances as a hindrance for attending this conference, but we'll provide more info on that once registration opens.

The goal is to open registration early-mid April.
It's been a bit delayed this year, but we were late in finalizing our venue booking, but now we're also waiting to finalize all our workshops for the weekend so that people can make workshop selections with their registration process.

The Vision: Tangible Faith

The CC10 Committee has set this year’s vision as ‘tangible faith’. The focus is on the question, “how do we bridge the gap between ‘having personal & intimate relationship with God’ and ‘living out good works as a result of it’?”

By the end of this year’s conference we hope you’ll be empowered and equipped with knowledge of what it means to practically live out your faith as Christ followers on campus. Whether you’re on your fellowship’s committee, an undefined leader or just a random passerby, this Campus Challenge, it is our prayer that you come ready to be challenged in discovering what it really means to have tangible faith.

Our theme verse this year is Ephesians 2:8-10 - ⁸For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, ⁹not a result of works, so that no one may boast. ¹⁰For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Why YOU should help out with CC10.

I hate writing persuasive pieces... it feels too manipulative. So instead, I’m just going to share where my heart is and why I chose to step up and volunteer to serve as part of the Campus Challenge 2010 committee.

Why I’ve stepped up:

I have a really big heart for university fellowship leaders (especially those handling a similar social/cultural context as myself, i.e. ACF/CCFs): At CC09, AFC grabbed all the fellowship leaders into a room to share/pray together. We were asked to share answers to one question: What was your fellowship’s biggest struggle this past year? While I kinda felt like a jerk because I basically said nothing... going around the room and hearing of the struggles of my fellow brothers and sisters broke my heart. Fellowship splits, fellowships disappearing, problems with setting vision or getting people on board with implementation. If only I knew. A lot of the things people shared were very similar situations that occurred within my fellowship (UWCCF) in the past, and it would have been so easy to just share that experience, what went well, what went wrong... and hopefully others could share in that victory or avoid the same stumbling blocks. I really hungered for more sharing of passion, learning, logistics, ideas and just everything. It hit me like a ton of bricks that we all were working towards the same goal in near-exactly the same situations as campus fellowships, and so many of us get caught up in making the same mistakes or facing the struggles that our predecessors faced. Doubtless to say, I think fellowship was meant for more on campus. We need to work together and build the relationships so we can unleash synergies (I sound like an energy drink salesperson now). We’re all working towards the same goal and I have a heart to empower fellowship leaders to get excited for it, to see that goal, and to run hard for it. It’s such a blessing to be able to spur one another on in our faith/work and Campus Challenge is one of those rare events to be able to do just that.

I have knowledge and experiences I want to pass down: While I personally won’t be the one passing down knowledge in this role, I truly believe in learning from the experienced. There are so many young future leaders I want to be impacted from the lessons and experiences of us old fogies. CC is all about preparing the next generation of campus leaders for the task at hand. I sincerely believe that, and that simply, is enough for me to want to be involved.

I Know my gifts, talents & passions: (errrr. I’ll try to say this in recognition of God’s blessings in me, and hopefully not in a prideful way) I know I’ve been blessed with a certain set of talents & giftings that enable me to vision, plan & lead (still much more to be developed, but yeah). I don’t think we’re called to live under a rock. If we’re not using our talents to proactively build the kingdom... what are we doing? Do you do everything you can to bring about a positive return to the kingdom? For me that means being involved in leadership & planning activities where I’m passionate/God leads me. (Anyone catch the parallel to the parable of the talents?)

I believe in a God of conviction, and I’ve been convicted: I believe in a God who reveals need and discontentment in His people’s hearts to get them to move and work towards the better/His purpose. God has clearly convicted me of the next generation of leaders and preparing them to bring about an even greater impact to this world than I will ever be able to do myself or have done on my campus. Where does God convict you? I hope you’ll consider this prayerfully: I imagine many of you reading this have gone through the process of being involved or leading your respective fellowships. Are you content with just moving on without passing down those experiences, passions & convictions? I really hope you’re not! (but that’s just me being biased).

I’m looking to partner up with brothers and sisters who want to make an impact on the next generation. People who are not satisfied with where their fellowships are right now, but have a hunger to see where it can go and all it can be for God, 1, 5, 10 and 20 years down the road. People who want to do everything they can to equip and empower others for doing God’s great work. The harvest is plentiful. That won’t ever change. The workers are few... but that’s okay. As long as there are workers out there with a zero compromise and a 100% selfless heart... we’re good to go. CC is such a great opportunity to impact the next generation and fire them up for God’s work. 2010 marks the new decade. Are you content with what’s been done in the past 10 years of your fellowship? Do you think that it’s meant for more in the new decade? I’m sure it is! But, there’s a process involved and it all begins with raising up strong & passionate young leaders. Want to be a good steward of your talents & passions? Let me know. I’m looking for you.

The Campus Challenge 2010 Team is in extreme need of man & woman power!!!

Help is needed in the following areas:

~~CC10 Committee:~~ We’re looking for a few more committee members to help with the vision planning as well as overseeing the rest of the CC10 team. Specific roles that still need to be filled include: Worship coordinators(2), Bible Study coordinator(1), Small Group coordinator(1), Workshop coordinator(1) and General coordination roles(1-2).

CC10 Team: We also need specific helpers for the following areas: Registration/transportation, Promotions, Poster Design, Web designer, AV/Media, general helpers and small group leaders

What is Campus Challenge?

I’m glad you asked!

In short: Campus Challenge is an annual conference, hosted in partnership with AFC and various ACF/CCF members, targeted at men & women of God who have a heart to see God moving in their fellowships and on their campuses!

Campus Challenge is held each year on the May 24th weekend (Victoria day weekend). The best and brightest of ACF & CCF leaders/members from all the different Ontario Universities come out to this conference for a great chance to seek out God’s will, to praise Him and prepare themselves for the upcoming year, all as a unified body.

There are a number of goals CC seeks to accomplish:

To equip and empower campus fellowship leaders for their respective leadership roles in the upcoming year(s), spiritually & practically.
To network with other fellowship leaders and to unify in the common goal of impacting our respective campuses / mission fields in response to the Great Commission.
To seek God as a body, foster intimate personal relationship with Him and to instill passion in the hearts of attendees.

A specific vision for this year’s conference has yet to be set, but it will fall in line with seeking to accomplish one/all of the above goals.

While AFC believes in the autonomy of the student groups, we will provide leadership, guidance, and training, promote and develop students in areas of evangelism, discipleship, leadership and world mission in order to prepare them to serve effectively in local churches, communities and the world.

Let me start with who I am...

Aloha! My name is Derek Ma and I’ll be your Campus Challenge 2010 committee chair. How did I get that title? I volunteered for it! I was told by some AFC brothers of the chance to serve in this capacity and after much prayer and thought; I decided to take on the opportunity of bringing you the BEST Campus Challenge yet! (Only by God’s graces, of course!).

I’m also currently the Chair for the University of Waterloo Chinese Christian Fellowship (UWCCF) and will continue to serve in this role until August 2010, when I finally graduate from UW (currently studying in the Masters of Accounting program). I personally have a huge huge huge heart and passion for university ministry and seeing God working through fellow brothers and sisters to bring about transformation within themselves and a hunger to bring the awesome news of Jesus Christ to the people of their campus. There’s much to be said about what I’m passionate about... but for now that will have to suffice.

I look forward to your partnership in time, effort, prayers and any other ways you are able to contribute to this great opportunity to BLESS our fellow brothers & sisters through Campus Challenge 2010 and prepare them for the great task waiting for all of us on our campuses.

Why the blog?

Very simple. I believe in transparency. On this blog I hope to keep everyone updated with the progress of planning CC2010; to share with you any milestones or victories we’ll be having over the next 4 months, but also the struggles and many needs myself & the rest of the Campus Challenge committee will come across leading up to the conference.

There is a l o n g way to go. As of now, a committee, vision, venue, speaker, structure and MUCH more have NOT been formalized (eep). The next four months are really going to be crazy and I would GREATLY appreciate any help you are able to provide in the form of tips, prayers or thoughts. (scratch that... we NEED all those things... especially your prayers!)

Check back regularly for updates and to monitor the progress of CC2010 from pretty much nothing to the great great great event it’s going to be on May 24^th!
